The Celuka extrusion process starts with a PVC compound that is melted and pushed through a die. The outer layer of the sheet is cooled immediately against the die wall, forming a dense, hard skin, while the interior continues to expand into a fine closed-cell foam. That skin is considerably harder than the surface of a free-foam PVC board, which makes the panel more resistant to scratches, dents, and indentation on worktops. The closed cells, in turn, limit moisture paths, because water cannot travel through interconnected voids as it does in open-cell materials.

Furniture-grade Celuka boards typically sit between 0.45 and 0.75 g/cm3. At the lower end you gain lightness and economy; at the higher end you gain stiffness, screw holding, and hinge retention. A board that is too soft for a cabinet side will strip screws when hinges are remounted, and a long shelf will sag under load. For structural components such as carcass sides and worktops, select a higher-density grade and a thickness matched to the span. This is the property that makes Celuka board valuable in furniture. The dense skin delivers a smooth, closed surface that accepts PVC edge banding, laminated films, and paint systems without the fibre raise typical on MDF. For door panels and visible cabinet sides, flatness is also a manufacturing advantage: consistent board thickness reduces sanding and rework.
A 4x8-foot sheet of 18mm Celuka board is noticeably lighter than particleboard or MDF of the same size. That reduces operator fatigue during cutting, lowers transport weight, and makes assembled units easier to manoeuvre on site. The weight saving does not come at the cost of rigidity when density is matched to the application.
Celuka board machines like a softwood with a finer finish. Use carbide-tipped saw blades and router bits; the dense skin cuts cleanly, and the foamed core does not tear out along the cut line. Pilot holes are recommended before screwing, and a standard wood screw holds well in densities above about 0.6 g/cm3. For lamination, polyurethane and solvent-free adhesives bond reliably to the skin, and edge banding with hot-melt adhesive works the same as on wood panels. If you plan to UV-print directly onto the board, the surface needs corona treatment or a printing primer to achieve proper ink adhesion.
